I have a hat stand right next to my front door and I can't decide if I should move it/get rid of it. Here's a pic of the hat rack:

that's a tough call. for the pure look of things, I would say no hat stand. but i love a good wooden hat stand so i'm a little torn.
i like that hat stand. You know that if its removed that chair will always have a pile of stuff on it. Namely purses, coats and Clemmys bag.
I love the hat stand...but with the coats on it, it looks a little cluttered. But I think something needs to be there....that people won't throw stuff on. Even a long piece of artwork on the wall!
without the hat stand, I see coats on the floor! And form follows function...so as long as the stand is there it will get used for a good reason.
Coat stands are hard because you almost want to fill them up with antique umbrellas and hats and whatnot. We had a similar space in an apartment one time and I backed two bookshelves together--a tall and a short, same width. Painted the back of the tall, hung a mirror, added a small lamp, and voila, we had a "foyer" all of a sudden.
