Robert Mapplethorpe
I feel very ordinary putting Mapplethorpes flowers on my page but his photographs are truly mesmorizing. So many people like his work now that it's becoming pedestrian to like his stuff. However he really did reinvent the way one precieves a flower. I also like his nude work but I am not a fan of his work on children. He died in the late 1980's.
Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash
This is one of my favorite paintings of all time. It is by Giacomo Balla and painted in 1912 and part of the Futurist movement. This movement was all about the future and moving toward progression forward but was very anti-women. Even so, I love this painting and the way it makes me feel. There is a picture of me on my wedding day and the bottom of my dress looks like this. I should post it. (probably won't)
Ezra Jack Keats
The children's book author who wrote The Snowy Day, Peter's Chair and much more. I love his artwork, the mix of collage and painting. You can read all about his life at: http://www.ezra-jack-keats.org/about/index.html Enjoy!

St. Kevin's in Glendalough
I hate the name Kevin. I have NEVER met a good man named Kevin, they're all jerks. However this is a church in Ireland built in 6 ce AD... we studied this church in college because of it's significance in style to the teachings of the church. I don't feel like lecturing and then truth is no one respects me as an Art Historian anyway... so if you want to know you can email me or take advanced Art History classes yourself. And yes I am very sensitive about this.

Rick Owens
The New Yorker just did a long piece on the designer Rick Owens who I never heard of until I read the article. Here is a link to his website. His clothing isn't my natural taste but I appreciate his talent and efforts.

Helen Keller Photograph Uncovered!
This photograph from 1888 was just uncovered. It is a photo of Helen Keller with her devoted teacher Anne Sullivan. This is now the earliest known photograph of Helen Keller and news articles are saying it is significant because Helen is holding a doll which is the first word she learned to express. I, along with many others, love Helen Keller, she is one of the people that make American great... she is a true national treasure.
